my Edge Day wristband

National Edge Day is an unofficial holiday, celebrated on October 17th, associated with straight edge. The first annual National Edge Day was celebrated on October 17, 1999 at the final Ten Yard Fight concert at the nightclub Karma in Boston. The bands Bane, In My Eyes, Fastbreak, Reach The Sky and Floorpunch also played. Since then, straight edge shows have been played on the Saturday closest to the 17th in various cities around the country, the most notable location being Boston.

In 2009, I attended the 10th Boston Edge Day show because I happened to be touring Emerson that day and stayed the night with a friend at the Art Institute. This was one of the most significant celebrations because it not only marked a decade of the holiday but it was also the last show for Have Heart, who were considered to be the epitome of early 2000s hardcore (in addition to being one of my favorite bands). It's impossible to describe the energy and feeling in Club Lido that night and I feel very privileged to have been part of that historic event.
