Patrick McCrossan, Theatre Teacher

 

Patrick McCrossan (Bachelor of Music, Music Theatre, The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at  Catholic University; Master of Arts, Theatre Education, Emerson College; Certified Public School Teacher, State of Massachusetts)- Patrick has been a theatre teacher at Qualters Middle School in Mansfield, MA. since 2010. He also works as a director and choreographer for the Rhode Island Youth Theatre, a company with which he has been a part of for 19 years.

 

McCrossan has directed, choreographed or music directed over 70 shows in his career, favorites including Shrek, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Peter Pan, Seussical, The Sound of Music, Seussical, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Oklahoma, All Shook Up,  and Les Mis. He has worked as a director, choreographer, and music director with Sharon Public Schools, Brookline Public Schools, Emerson College, Mansfield High School, The Norton Singers, and The Un-Common Theatre Company.

 

As a public school theatre teacher, Patrick has developed standards-based curriculum using modules in the areas of theatre, music, and cross-curricular studies in social studies and English. He has studied in the areas of Inclusion Education, Response to Intervention and RTI2, and his 7th grade theatre classes are fully inclusive, and cover topics ranging from Theatre History, Technical Theatre and Story Adaptation, to Scene Study, Improvisation and Monologue & Small Scene work.   

 

As co-director of QMS Drama, the after school Theatre program at QMS, his musicals and dramas have earned statewide recognition for excellence over the years through the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild. His students have also been recognized at the state level for their exemplary work in the areas of performance and technical work. QMS Drama’s 2013 fall Musical, Seussical, Jr., was named best Children’s Theatre performance in New England, and QMS Drama was awarded the prestigious Moss Hart Award from the New England Theatre Conference for Excellence in Children’s Theatre.
