Worked as a full-time theatre teacher at urban public high school.  Taught Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Theatre to students of all grade and skill levels.  Utilized scene work, discussion, and games to teach on such topics as acting, improv, playmaking, and critique.  Directed fall or spring production during school year and assisted fellow theatre teacher with their production when applicable.  Collaborated with art, music, and theatre teachers on projects and discussions.  Integral in the Theatre Boosters committee.  Worked closely with fellow teachers, students, and parents.

Served as instructor of weekly theatre classes for youth ages 4-11.  Taught acting and creative drama using games, exercises, acting techniques, and movement.  Utilized art supplies to facilitate construction of masks and incorporated those masks into story creation.  Focused older students’ learning on characterization and introduced Laban movement techniques to enhance character creation.  End of term performance showcase includes all components of students’ learning.  Worked closely with Education Director, students, and parents.

Permanent Drama Substitute

Worked as full-time theatre teacher at urban middle school.  Taught improv games, facilitated drama based discussions, and showed films to enhance theatre learning.  Utilized lesson planning skills and had to be prepared to modify things swiftly.  Responsible for 15 different sections of middle school students, some of whom were special needs and many of whom were ELL.  Also stepped into the substitute role for various math classes.

Created and executed theatre lesson plans at small, private high school.  Worked closely with co-operating teacher and other theatre department staff.  Taught classes on improvisation, movement improvisation, and social and political theatre.  Assisted with classes on lighting design, American Sign Language, playwriting, and short dramatic pieces, culminating in a two-night performance.  Served as acting coach and assistant to director on spring musical, Carousel.  Provided instruction and feedback to students on their work through grades, comments, and one on one discussion.  Utilized games, exercises, and previous teaching experiences to engage students and support their educational goals.

Served as assistant to part-time theatre teacher/director at private high school.  Oversaw after-school rehearsals for both fall three-act play and spring musical.  Supervised student directors and student stage managers, providing instruction as needed.  Assisted director in blocking, maintaining rehearsal schedule, choreographing dance numbers, and fund raising.  Gave beginner students acting lessons and developed advanced students’ acting skills through use of improv, games, and play analysis.  Assisted technical director and costume designer as needed.

Conceptualized, wrote, and designed study guides to be used by over 1200 high school students in Student Subscription Series.  Assisted recruiter for summer programs on in-school workshop visits with Chicago public high school students.  Facilitated teacher seminars with staff and actors of each main stage show.  Served as assistant director on creation and filming of behind-the-scenes DVD for teachers and schools.  Organized ticket orders for teachers.  Performed other office tasks: answering phones, faxing, copying, email and ticket sales (using Tessitura).

Education Apprentice

Created and executed programming for grades 6-12 on social issues.  Utilized games, improv, discussions, and guest speakers to inform students and facilitate creation of original scenes based on issues like drugs, sexual health, alcohol use, peer pressure, and relationships.  Organized tours for students to present work to other classes and groups.  Pre- and post-tested students for grant purposes and trained other testers.  Taught classes on playwriting, acting, story dramatization, and image theatre in spring and summer camps.  Acted in and directed plays in various festivals for theatre and community.

Worked within 14-person teaching company.  Made use of performance theatre and games to teach students grades K-12 about social issues like bullying, self control, harassment, and empathy.  Booked out of town lodging and coordinated media coverage.  Occasionally wrote and designed custom programs, based on school requests.  Accountable for knowing up to seven scripts at a time.  Worked closely with teaching partner, schools, teachers, and students.
